World Refugee Day Launch

World Refugee Day Waterloo Region 2017 will be launched at a community event held at TheMuseum in downtown Kitchener. The event features the opening of an art exhibit that highlights local artists reflecting on the theme, “Embracing Refugees to Celebrate our Common Humanity”. The evening will include guest speakers, entertainment and light refreshments.
Fifth Annual Refugee Art Exhibition

THEMUSEUM is partnering with Community Coalition on Refugee and Immigrant Concerns (CCORIC) and Immigration Partnership Waterloo Region to host the fifth annual Refugee Art Exhibition during the month of June 2017.
Until June 25th, over 20 artists of all ages will display their artwork at THEMUSEUM in celebration of World Refugee Day. This year’s theme is “Embracing Refugees to Celebrate our Common Humanity”.

World Refugee Day Awards of Distinction

A celebration honouring outstanding members of the local community with lived refugee experience and volunteers dedicated to working with refugees. The evening will feature the presentation of Waterloo Region World Refugee Day Awards of Distinction to deserving members of the local community, followed by local music and light refreshments. The event will be held at Victoria Park Pavillion.
National Film Board Screening: LIMIT THE SKY

Julia Ivanova follows the lives of seven ambitious men and women who have come from as far as the Philippines, Lebanon and Sudan in pursuit of success and happiness. Each has a different goal in sight, and is convinced that the gateway to their future and financial success can be found in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Shot over several years, LIMIT IS THE SKY follows the hopeful young workers as they establish themselves in the boomtown, where even without an education it’s possible to make big money in the resource industry. However, when the 2015 global oil glut hits Fort McMurray, and abruptly affects the economy, these young people are forced to reconsider their choices. The sky is no longer the limit.

Walk with Refugees for a Stronger Canada

The Community Coalition on Refugee and Immigrant Concerns (CCORIC) invites you to join us at our annual event: “Walk with Refugees for a Stronger Canada”. The walk is one of the many events celebrating World Refugee Day 2017. This year’s local World Refugee Day theme is: “Embracing Refugees to Celebrate our Common Humanity”. At this event, Waterloo Region residents, former refugees, recent refugees, local organization and government representatives will join us in a two kilometer walk that starts outside Kitchener City Hall. The 2 km wall will feature stops along the way where we will hear from refugees who speak about their personal experiences. The walk will end at the KW Multicultural Festival Opening Ceremonies in Victoria Park.
