UNHCR Campaign

In 2000, the United Nations (UN) designated June 20th as World Refugee Day. Since 2001, World Refugee Day has been observed every year in over 100 countries around the world. The UN established World Refugee Day: • To recognize the courage and strengths of people who were forced to flee their homes and live a life of a refugee. • To raise awareness and understanding of the realities faced by refugees • To recognize their c ontributions and successes in our societies, local communities, their new homes. Every year, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR or the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees) comes up with a theme to promote events that have an impactful message on the refugee experience.
